This review compared memantine with placebo in the treatment of probable Alzheimer’s disease. The authors concluded that memantine is effective and safe across the spectrum of disease severity. The authors’ conclusions reflect the findings of the review for patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease and appear reliable. However, benefits were not reported for all outcomes in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.
