Criticizes the widespread use of spreadsheets for business and financial planning, citing research evidence that error rates are too high and audit trails inadequate. Compares the advantages and speed of "objects" (and explains their three components) for planning and claims they have greater strategic value. Argues that they can give competitive advantage by capturing knowledge and providing guaranteed integrity and true strategic planning; but recognizes that, like spreadsheets, acceptance may be slow.
