Article Type: Editorial From: Aslib Proceedings: New Information Perspectives, Volume 64, Issue 2
With this issue, I begin my tenure as Editor of Aslib Proceedings. After 30 years as an information management professional and then academic researcher, I am delighted with the opportunity to join this esteemed publication and to put my efforts and expertise to work on behalf of the information management community. Aslib Proceedings was first published in 1949. Over 60 years later, we see today that the information management community is increasingly collaborative and international, a trend also manifested by the development of the Web.
From its origins as a UK publication Aslib Proceedings has grown into an international journal with papers from all continents. The Journal’s mission is to publish papers of the scientific quality that are relevant for the theory and practice of information management. The aim is also to further develop the vision of Aslib Proceedings as a dynamic, international publication focusing on information management research and practice. In the future, the journal seeks to expand the breadth and nature of offerings to the information management community, including new and growing areas of research and practice.
Aslib Proceedings is currently undergoing many changes. Editorials will be published with each issue highlighting the contents of an issue or issues of interest to the information management community. A Book Review Editor, Dr Agnes Goz, from the University of North Texas, has been appointed.
The Editorial Advisory Board has been refreshed and expanded to deliver an international information management industry focus for the journal and to ensure high quality paper submissions. I am grateful to all our new Editorial Advisory Board members and paper reviewers for providing, without compensation, their expert peer reviews that maintains the quality of the articles published.
Submission to Aslib Proceedings is now electronic via Emerald’s ScholarOne manuscript system. This change allows manuscripts to be more rapidly and effectively processed.
After more than a half-century of Aslib Proceedings articles, the journal moves forward in providing for the information management research and practice community. The trajectory for Aslib Proceedings is to increase scientific quality while remaining relevant to practice. Look for further announcements about further changes for Aslib Proceedings through the year 2012. So watch this space!
