Electronic journal delivery in Korea

KRIC began delivering 62 FirstSearch general and academic databases to the research and higher education community in the country in January. Six months later, KRIC expanded its information service with the delivery of 300 electronic journals through Electronic Collections Online to the same community. "By working with OCLC, a nonprofit, world-class information provider, we are able to fulfil most of our mission of providing electronic information to support research and higher education in our country", said Sung-Hyuk Kim, Acting Director General of KRIC.

The journals offered by KRIC to universities and research institutions in Korea are published by Blackwell Publishers, Carfax Publishing, Institution of Chemical Engineers, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, MIT Press, Royal Society of Chemistry, Scandinavian University Press and the Ohio State University Press.

Electronic Collections Online allows libraries to search across hundreds of journals from many different publishers, using a single interface and access point. Titles are available in many different subject areas, including life and physical sciences, social sciences and the humanities. More information about Electronic Collections Online, including a list of available journals, can be found at http://www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/eco.htm

KRIC, which was created in December 1996 by the Korean Ministry of Education as an affiliated institute to the Korea Research Foundation, delivers information to the country's research and higher education community. For more information, consult the KRIC Web site: http://www.kric.ac.kr
