Desktop upgrade at the National Library of New Zealand

Desktop upgrade at the National Library of New Zealand

A desktop upgrade should produce a modernised staff information technology service as one of its outcomes, according to the consultants for a desktop upgrade project currently underway at the National Library of New Zealand. The desktop project will support the work of library staff, curators and even customers. By the end of September 1998 most internal library systems had been upgraded to a Windows 95 environment.

The upgrade was managed by Tech-Tonics, a Wellington-based consultancy company that provides total solutions to information technology problems. A total of 175 ACER Pentium 233 personal computers were installed as part of the current contract. It incorporates Novell 4.11 server software and tools such as Groupware. By using the Managewise system, in-house IS staff will be able to do more from their own PCs to address problems identified by customers. Security needs are provided by Bordermanager software.
