Information and Communication Technologies in Economic Development

This conference will investigate how information and communication technologies can be employed to promote economic development. The focus will be on, but not restricted to, countries of the Third World and South Asia.

Topics of interest include:

  • national policies for information and communication technologies;

  • applications of information and communications technology;

  • communication technologies in education;

  • education for information and communication technologies;

  • impact of the information age on health care systems, law, taxation, education.

These themes are indicative only. Discussion of Conference themes with the Conference organisers may be by e-mail (icted99@farrer.riv.csu.edu.au). The final direction of the Conference will be determined after receipt and review of submitted papers.

Half-day workshops will follow the Conference on the second and third days and will cover:

  • the Internet and networking;

  • multimedia systems development;

  • object-oriented programming in Java;

  • object-oriented systems analysis and design.

Conference papers in English are solicited from individuals and organisations interested in information technology and its application in the developing countries of South Asia. Submitted papers will be subject to academic review prior to acceptance. Papers presented at the Conference will be published in the Conference proceedings. Other papers may be presented at poster sessions.

Abstracts/papers and queries relating to the conference may be e-mailed to the conference organisers (icted99@farrer.riv.csu.edu.au). Abstracts/papers should include authors' names, affiliations, addresses, fax and phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Hard copies of abstracts/papers may be posted to: The Secretary, ICTED '99 Conference, School of Information Studies, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, NSW 2678, Australia.

Presenters from Third World countries may request the conference organisers to include their names in an application for World Bank funding.

  • Conference and workshops ­ US$150 (includes lunch and refreshments).

  • Conference only ­ US$150 (includes lunch and refreshments).

  • Workshops only ­ US$50 (includes lunch and refreshments).

  • Category A hotels ­ US$100 (per night includes breakfast and dinner).

  • Category B hotels ­ US$50 (per night includes breakfast and dinner).

  • Category C hotels ­ US$35 (per night includes breakfast and dinner).
