EARL best of the Web competition results

EARL, the Consortium for Public Library Networking, has given awards for the best public library Web pages in the UK. Awards were made in four categories, to reflect features that make the library's site informative, interesting, useful, and a pleasure to visit. The intention is to use the chosen sites as benchmarks for other public libraries. The list of award winners, together with links to the winning Web sites, is at http://www.earl.org.uk/earlweb/awards.html

Award winners in the four categories were as follows:

  1. 1.

Best information content Leeds Library and Information Service, http://www.leeds.gov.uk/library/library.html

  2. 2.

Best interactive features Surrey Libraries, http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/libraries/

  3. 3.

Best collection of Internet resources South Ayrshire Library and Information Services, http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/

  4. 4.

Best design and usability Essex Libraries, http://www.essexcc.gov.uk/infoserv/ecc_lib/essex.htm

It is heartening to see South Ayrshire, a relatively small local government library, winning an award. It just shows that, with the World Wide Web, size does not matter.
