ASISPNC Annual Meeting

Theme: Managing the Information Deluge, 18-19 September 1998, Oregon Health Sciences University

Technology allows us to store, retrieve and manipulate data in ways that were not possible just a few years ago. However, most organisations have neither succeeded in ensuring that all their current information is useable, nor have they succeeded in developing a long term strategy to ensure that the electronic information produced today will be accessible in the future. In order to function, organisations and individuals have become reliant on huge amounts of information stored, processed and retrieved according to a constantly expanding number of formats, protocols, and methods. This information lends itself poorly to long term archiving -- especially in distributed computing environments where it is not clear who should be responsible for maintaining the information.

Proposal submission guidelines

A proposal submission should include a title and 100-word abstract. It should also include your name, your title within your organisation, address, phone number, and e-mail address. You are encouraged to use the online submission form at http://www.orst.edu/groups/asispnc/current/proposal.html . ASCII e-mail and paper submissions will also be accepted. All proposals relating to content management will be considered, though ASISPNC is especially looking for submissions on the following topics:

  • Intranet organisation and management

  • Maintaining access to historical or dynamically updated data

  • Determining which information should be kept

  • Determining who should be responsible for maintaining access to what information

  • Managing increasingly complex and diverse data objects

Interested parties may use the online submission form at http://www.orst.edu/groups/asispnc/current/proposal.html or they may contact: Kyle Banerjee 333 Valley Library, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR 97331, E-mail: banerjek@ucs.orst.edutel , Tel: +1 541 737 7262.

Proposals must be received by 31 May 1998 to receive full consideration. Presenters receive complimentary conference registration.
