Maori Language OPAC launched

Maori Language OPAC launched

Summarised from Library Life Vol. 220, February 1998, p. 18

Maori Pac, the first Maori language online public access catalogue in the Far North of New Zealand, was launched at Kerikeri Library in November 1996 at a mayoral reception. The OPAC is incorporated into a Dynix library system. Connie Johnston, a Dynix representative, said "there is a increasing awareness in New Zealand of the need to nurture and protect its Maori cultural heritage. Dynix New Zealand has recognised the need for libraries to be part of this process. Maori PAC is the result". The Maori language is an official language of New Zealand and is still used extensively in the north of the country.
