International Librarians Encouraged to attend 1998 ALA Conference

ALA is continuing its proactive approach started in spring 1997 to recruit overseas ("international") librarians to become ALA members and attend the ALA conference. The association is undertaking outreach to library associations and librarians around the world using multilingual membership and conference brochures, with special emphasis on the 1997/1998 international theme, "Libraries: global reach, local touch", in an effort to make the 1998 annual conference a truly global event for American and international librarians. Information professionals from other countries are encouraged to contact Carol Erickson, Director of International Relations (e-mail: mailto:cerickso@ala.org). There is also a group raising funds to support international librarians in attending the 1998 Conference; contact Marianna Tax Choldin (e-mail: mcholdin@uiuc.edu) or Jim Neal (e-mail: jneal@jhu.edu) for further information.
