Advanced materials from Huntsman

Article Type: Materials From: Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal, Volume 80, Issue 4

Huntsman Advanced Materials recently showcased a range of new materials and innovative technologies at JEC 2008.

Huntsman Advanced Materials is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of advanced epoxy adhesives, rapid tooling materials and structural composites. At JEC 2008, the company showed its latest product and technology innovations, providing cost effective and production-efficient end-user solutions for the world’s major manufacturing industries.

Some of the latest materials and production technology innovations in the rapid tooling, adhesives and structural composites ranges were on display. Highlights include:

  • tooling infusion systems for the manufacturing of large-scale high-temperature moulds utilising Araldite LY 8615/Aradur 8615/Aradur 5212;

  • high-temperature tooling solutions for aerospace applications including epoxy boards and laminating systems; and

  • high performance, bromine-free, flame retardant Araldite adhesives and Epocast syntactics for aerospace applications including Araldite 1570 FST A/B and Araldite 1614-A1.

Huntsman also demonstrated Araldite MY 0600, a multi-functional epoxy resin based on meta-aminophenol. Compared to the properties of many multi-functional epoxy resins, this material is thgought to be unique in its ability to provide structural matrices with higher modulus and greater toughness, making it ideally suited to aerospace applications.
