Paul van Daalen has recently published this book in the Dutch language. The intriguing title (The Century of the Roof) refers to the earliest attempts to conquer the sky. It begins in about 1910 when everyone in Holland climbed a tree or up on to a roof to look at whatever aircraft passed by. A reporter in 1912 wrote “This will be the Century of the Roof” hence it use as a subtitle to this book.

Paul van Daalen was involved in the development of the Transport Airship Air worthiness Requirement. He is at present with the European Aviation Safety Agency where he works on the certification of transport aeroplanes.
