Article Type: Safety topics and notes From: Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal, Volume 80, Issue 3.

New International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and European Joint Aviation Authority standards require all pilots and flight engineers to demonstrate a minimum of ICAO Level 4 (operational level) English Language Proficiency (ELP) no later than 5 March 2008. With effect from that date, they must have a licence endorsement certifying their ICAO ELP Level.

Issue of ELP endorsements by the Authority commenced on 17 January 2008.
