Cincinnati Lamb recently announced that it has received an order from Stellex Aerostructures, Inc., for its new HyperMach high rail linear motor profiler. The machine, a 9-axis gantry with twin independent spindles, will be installed at the customer's state-of-the-art aerospace machining facility in the USA in mid-2006.

Stellex Aerostructure will be using the Cincinnati Lamb HyperMach to machine large, complex structures – up to 30 m long by 4.5 m wide. Utilising direct drive linear motor technology, the HyperMach offers the extreme speed and accuracy critical for the production of today's monolithic component designs. Additionally, the independent spindle arrangement allows manufacturing of opposite hand 5-axis parts simultaneously or the capability of producing two identical 5-axis parts at a time.

Cincinnati Lamb continues to play a major role in supplying equipment and processes that help to keep air travel safe, reliable and affordable. “As production shifts to the global market, world-class producers must evolve to compete”, said Dan Janka, President, Cincinnati Machine, LLC, a Cincinnati Lamb business unit. “The efficiency gains provided by the HyperMach allow component producers to be positioned for success in a changed market.”

The HyperMach family of linear motor profilers was introduced in 2002 and has grown to include a variety of models tailored to meet the production needs in all aerospace manufacturing sectors. The modular HyperMach machine is available with alternative 5-axis head configurations and combinations. The common x-axis rail and gantry designs facilitate a broad range of axes travels utilising Cincinnati Lamb's exclusive 3D parametric modelling tools. The highly flexible HyperMach family of machine tools is said to be well suited for applications ranging from high volume aluminium removal on plate parts to high-speed drill and trim operations on cured composites parts.

Stellex Aerostructures is a provider of highly engineered subsystems and components for the aerospace and defence industries. Stellex Aero-structures operates three subsidiaries: Stellex Monitor Aerospace, Inc., Stellex Precision Machining, Inc., and Stellex Bandy Machining, Inc. Monitor and Precision Machining are leaders in the manufacturing of large complex machined parts and structural sub-assemblies for the aerospace industry. Bandy Machining provides precision aircraft hinges and other structural components for the aerospace and space industries.
