Signal generators add feature now required by many RF ASICs and ICs

Aeroflex Incorporated has announced it has added differential I/Q output to its 3410 series signal generator family for improved testing of RF integrated circuits (RFICs).

Today, most RF communications ICs with I/Q modulators use differential input ports to separate I and Q signals and eliminate the effects of common mode interference. The separation of the chip inputs cancels out noise effects and improves the quality of the mobile phone or other end-user product where the RFIC is used.

“By adding differential I/Q outputs to the back panel of the 3410 series signal generators, we offer the customer a unique solution,” said Peter Spurr, signal generator product manager, Aeroflex. “We believe no other manufacturer offers the differential output to RFIC manufacturers with the necessary 3 V bias voltage, while at the same time providing a full 4 V peak-to-peak signal, a capability required by their designs. Until now, RFIC designers had to build their own test rig or bolt together two test boxes. We provide an inexpensive one-box solution.”

About the 3410 series and differential I/Q output option

The 3410 series is a family of portable, lightweight signal generators covering a wide range of carrier frequencies up to 4 GHz. According to Aeroflex high quality analog and vector modulation capabilities make these signal generators ideal for research, development and manufacturing applications.

The 3410 series differential I/Q output option 009 can be ordered new with the product or sent to the factory for upgrade on existing 3410 series products. It requires the installation of the arbitrary waveform generator (Option 005) and is not available with Pulse Modulation (Option 006).
