Recruitment target reached! – 300 experienced engineers join Airbus UK

Three hundred high calibre aerospace engineers are set for high flying careers in the South West of England working on a range of aircraft programmes, including the new, double-decker A380. Airbus at Filton has now met its own ambitious target – which was to recruit 300 engineers between June and December 2000. The next target is for a further 300 engineers who are required by the end of 2001.

Faced with scepticism from the aerospace industry as to the availability of suitable candidates, the company formed a full time recruitment team, the "red team", which comprised both engineers and human resources personnel. From their "nerve centre" at Filton the "red team" organised a series of nationwide roadshows accompanied by an intensive advertising campaign. The response was overwhelming, with over 5,000 applications received.

The new Airbus recruits have been drawn from the range of disciplines within the engineering spectrum. Now on board are more stress and structures designers, loads and dynamics designers, and KBE and CAD engineers, technical authors and concept designers.

Tom Williams, managing director and general manager at Airbus UK, said:

I'm delighted that we've managed to attract so many top quality engineers. It's an exciting time for us, with A380 and A400M coming into the picture, Airbus is definitely the aerospace company to work for.
