Unlike many electronic component companies which have simply swapped data books for CD-ROMs, DDC informs us that it has adopted a rather different approach by packaging a CD-ROM with a new short-form printed catalogue (Plate 18). The design engineer simply selects the appropriate component or subsystem from the short-form and then accesses the full specification sheets and application notes on the CD-ROM.
Plate 18 DDC's new product CD-ROM with a new short-form printed catalogue
DDC previously produced weighty, comprehensive data books for its four product ranges of military and aerospace databus interface, remote power control, motion feedback, and motor drive applications. The new format is less costly to produce and distribute, easier to update, and also offers more information to the design engineer in a very accessible format.
Along with application notes and full specification data sheets, the CD-ROM also offers applications notes, designer guides and even video demonstrations of many of its products.
