Avionics displays for V-22 Osprey aircraft

BARCO Display Systems has received a US$6.7 million contract from the Boeing Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to provide Standby Flight Displays for the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft (Plate 14). Boeing will integrate a modified version of the BARCO SFD 4.3 Avionics Standby Flight Display into the cockpit of the V-22, a multi-mission aircraft designed for utilisation by all services, for the back-up engine and fuel display.

The BARCO SFD 4.3 Avionics Display uses active matrix liquid crystal display technology, which the company considers ensures that the displays have superior optical performance in terms of luminance, contrast and reflectivity. Boeing is said to have selected the BARCO SFD 4.3 because of its commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) design based on an open and modular architecture allowing BARCO to have the capability of adapting the unit to meet the specific standby flight display technical requirements of the V-22. Boeing will begin accepting deliveries of the BARCO SFD 4.3 in June 2001.
