Brookhouse Composites Ltd reports that it has recently installed a special purpose, mandrel manufacturing facility, which will allow even faster turn-around and greater flexibility in the production of specific composite components, requiring the use of ceramic or plaster cores.

The new facility uses advanced mandrel compounds from Tl Systems to produce high strength, wash-away rigid mandrels in a wide range of geometries. Tl compounds are described as highly moisture resistant so that they retain good viscosity for long periods under molten conditions. They are available for use in a wide range of temperatures. Finished mandrels are coated with Ultra-Coat, a solvent-based release/barrier system, which provides multiple releases and claims virtually no transfer to moulded parts and no material build-up on mandrels.

The installation of the new mandrel production facility allows Brookhouse to respond very quickly to customer requirements for customised composite components, as all mandrel manufacturing can now be carried out in-house.

Brookhouse Composites offers a total composites manufacture and repair facility for composite components. This facility includes design of composite tooling, extensive, controlled environment clean rooms for composite lay-up, curing ovens and the autoclave capacity to handle large and complex assemblies as well as minor details and small components.
