Engineering Animation, Inc., reports that Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH, a subsidiary of Fairchild Aerospace Corporation, has selected EAI's open enterprise visualisation solution for use in its 728JET aircraft program. Dornier is utilising VisMockUp, a powerful, real-time digital prototyping solution, and ViaConference, a visualisation tool that facilitates real-time, peer-to-peer collaboration for online meetings, design reviews and general communication among dispersed project team members. The solutions are being used to reduce development time and the number of design changes made in later stages of product development.
Dornier's city-hopper type 728JET aircraft is developed using Dassault SystÉmes' CATIA computer-aided design (CAD) models and SDRC's Metaphase product data management (PDM) system. The latest information from the CAD and PDM systems is automatically updated to the digital models in VisMockUp, which enables Dornier to have a complete systems integration. For example, in automatic processes, the entire model is checked for collisions and the designers of the modules concerned are informed by the system of analysis results. With VisMockUp, all designers involved in product development are able to visualise the results and make necessary changes earlier in the design process.
"EAI's solutions have helped Dornier Luftfahrt achieve a considerable reduction of development time and have helped us achieve our engineering goals for the 728 program", said Dr Gunter Kappler, head of engineering for Dornier Luftfahrt. "With VisMockUp and VisConference, we are able to identify problems earlier in product development and limit the number of design changes needed."
