Pal International's rigorous new cleaning system for de-greasing mechanical parts during critical machinery testing has been adopted by the Royal Navy and Boeing.
The aerospace and military experts have taken on a new form of cleaning system for use on mechanical parts including submarines and aircraft called the Lotoxane Fast Wipes method, after strict and rigorous testing.
The wipes were designed by leading hygiene product manufacturers, Pal, as an alternative to old environmentally harmful systems. Traditional, solvents once used, including 1.1.1 Trichloroethane, were given the red card following the Montreal Protocol Agreement in 1995, due to their ozone depleting properties. Solvents such as these have potential carcinogenic properties and can be highly flammable.
The Lotoxane Fast Wipes are said to be safe and only give off low levels of solvent vapour in a heavy duty non woven wipe which is tear-resistant and durable. This makes them ideal for removing grease, oils and surface dirt.
Paul Mountain, Pal's group technical manager, explained:
High levels of solvents in confined spaces can be harmful, especially when uncontrolled. The Lotoxane Fast Wipes are safe because the level of solvent is carefully controlled and this ensures that they are safe to be used in critical environments. This enables a measured amount of chemical to be used to cleanse and de-grease components.
According to Pal the solvent wipes are fast becoming popular in a wide variety of industries and the Armed Services, after approval by the Ministry of Defence and also aerospace manufacturers, Rolls-Royce.
