Derwent Information reports that it has enhanced the format of its Industry and Technology Patents Profiles (ITPs) which focus on the latest patented advances in key engineering technologies. Every patent is now described in a newly-designed abstract which enables engineers, scientists and researchers to identify easily the technical content that is essential for keeping their research knowledge up-to-date. Over 600,000 engineering patents are published every year, and about 80 per cent of the technical data they contain is not published anywhere else.

Derwent's clear and concise patent abstracts are written by engineers for engineers, to make even the most complicated technological developments immediately understandable. Each abstract highlights the main uses and advantages of a new technology and includes a drawing or diagram, where appropriate, to illustrate key components of the invention. Every abstract has the same format, enabling rapid browsing, and is indexed to facilitate detailed, technology-specific searches.

Within the recently-expanded ITP range, Derwent's abstracts are grouped by industry and technology area. Engineers can select from a total of over 240 technology titles covering industries ranging from Aerospace, Automotive and Communications to Computing, Machine Tools and Materials Handling.

For those interested in patenting, licensing, marketing, and technology and competitor tracking, Derwent's abstracts also include a summary of who patented the technology, who owns the rights to it, and where it was patented.

ITPs are available in print, pdf and Lotus Notes format. More detailed information and samples of every profile are available on the Derwent Web site at www.derwent.com/itp.html
