The recently launched Derwentside Engineering Forum Limited, set up as a non-profit making organization to promote engineering and manufacturing commerce in this area of the UK, has appointed Mr John Hodgson as business development manager.

His pedigree for the position, which involves the creation of meaningful networks between all interested parties, is one that spans from the shopfloor, through supervisory roles, planning, sales and marketing up to managing director level. He has a BSc (Hons) and Diplomas in Production Inventory Management and Systems Practice and highlights his excellent communication skills as being paramount to the success of his post.

"Engineering and manufacturing throughout the UK has been significantly eroded, especially during the past 30 years", commented John. "We in Derwentside are not prepared to let the situation get any worse without putting up a considerable fight. We intend to lay the platform for increased engineering awareness in the area, ensure the infrastructure for engineering development is in place and, ultimately, sell Derwentside and the skill of its workforce not only in the UK but worldwide."

Other key members of the Forum include Aerospace Systems and Technologies Ltd, Multi-Arc (UK), Grorud Engineering, DW Engineering, Dyer Engineering, Hiatco, NWC Precision Engineers, Radford Retail Systems, Protocol, Derwentside College and KC Engineering.
