Pegasus Software Limited has announced a major order for its total modular business and manufacturing solution from bespoke design engineering company, Reynard Aviation Limited - a Reynard/Virgin Travel Group joint venture dedicated to the design and engineering of aircraft interiors. The order consists of a ten-user installation of Pegasus Opera modular accounting software and a ten-user installation of Pegasus Operations manufacturing software. This will provide Reynard Aviation with centralised management information to handle a predicted £12 million turnover in its first year of trading.

The Pegasus business and manufacturing solution will support Reynard Aviation's production of five pairs of aircraft seats per daily shift, providing an integrated manufacturing environment with automatically updated stock and customer information. The order for Pegasus Opera was placed with accredited Pegasus Reseller Microsystems, which has installed the solution and provided project management, consultancy, training and support for Opera. Accredited Pegasus Reseller PCS (Professional Computer Solutions) Limited has installed the Operations system and has carried out the training, consultancy, project management and support for this aspect of the project. Mark Knowles, Managing Director at Reynard Aviation Limited, said:

Operations links directly into Opera, so we have a total integrated production control and financial management system that is extremely reliable and efficient, and that can grow as we do. We design, develop and assemble the aircraft seats on site, and the Pegasus solution supports us throughout this process. It provides us with customised reports on demand, from full material traceability and customer histories, to current sales and works order information, right through to customer invoicing. Because there is no room for error in any aspect of aeronautical engineering, we also needed a solution that could provide us with a high level of attention to detail and meet all of our requirements for quality control and management. As a market leader, Pegasus could meet all of our demands for security and functionality, and we feel confident in the degree of support available.

One of the main benefits of the solution for Reynard Aviation Limited is said to be the ability to trace every bought-in and manufactured component through to a finished passenger seat. A modification provided by PCS Limited enables this facility to record issue numbers of every component used. Another feature is the ability to combine within Operations one Bill Of Materials (BOM) which serves as both an engineering BOM, showing all components, and a production BOM, showing only sub-assemblies that are bought in.

The latest figures from independent market research analyst, Romtec-GFK, confirm Pegasus as a leading supplier of modular accounting software with a 65 per cent market share for 1998. Pegasus Opera is one of the UK's most widely installed modular business and accounting software packages with over 12,000 customers. During 1998, sales of Pegasus Opera were up by 24 per cent on the previous year.

The PC-based software supports both Windows and DOS and has a full range of commercial and financial modules. These include Sales, Purchase, Nominal, Cashbook, Invoicing, Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing, Stock, Payroll, Costing, Fixed Assets, Personnel, Reporter and Bill of Materials. An EC VAT module fulfils the requirement for EC VAT reporting, including EC Sales List and Intrastat SSD returns.

Written in FoxPro, an industry standard database, Opera operates on NT and Small Business Server and links with all Microsoft Office products as well as complementary Pegasus applications such as Connection (Contact Management), Operations (Manufacturing), PayPoint (Retail), and Edition (Electronic Data Interchange - EDI).

About operations

Designed to perform in a variety of manufacturing environments where the maintenance of traceability and stock control is a priority, Operations enables manufacturers to buy just those functions they need. There are 19 modules in the suite including Sales Order Processing, Production Control, Configurator, Quality Manager, Purchase Order Processing, Stock, BOM, Material Requirement Planning, EDI for Operations, Quotation Manager, Job Costing and Traceability.

By linking directly into Pegasus Opera, Operations enables customer and supplier information held in Opera to be directly updated from Operations. Sales invoices raised against customers and purchase invoices received from suppliers will automatically be transferred to their accounts in Opera. Entering sales orders will display the current status of that account and warn if the credit limit has been exceeded. It is also possible to interrogate the customer or supplier account directly from Operations. Linking accounting and manufacturing in this way allows data to be input once only, producing a tightly integrated system for both production control and financial management.
