British Aerospace board appointments

British Aerospace announces changes to the board of the company. Bob Bauman has completed his term as chairman and has not stood for re-election. Sir Richard Evans, formerly chief executive, has now been appointed chairman.

A principal consideration in addressing the future composition of the board of the company has been to ensure the continued interaction of a proven, successful, management team, drawing on different but complementary skills and experience whilst also providing opportunity for new talents to be recognised and flourish at all levels throughout the company. With this objective:

  • John Weston is appointed chief executive. Formerly group managing director, John has 28 years' experience with the company with responsibility, in recent years, for the company's defence activities.

  • Richard Lapthorne is appointed vice-chairman and will assume responsibility for the company's strategy and planning activity. This new position, which is with immediate effect, is consistent with Richard's desire to reduce his work commitments while still maintaining a key role in the future development of the company.

  • George Rose is appointed to the board as finance director with immediate effect. George has been with the company for six years and was, most recently, responsible for the company's finance and treasury function.
