Brian Blunden re-appointed to the Foresight Steering Group

Brian Blunden, in his capacity as president of AIRTO, the Association of Independent Research and Technology Organisations, has been invited by Sir Robert May, chief scientific adviser to the Government, to continue as a member of the Foresight Steering Group. Brian Blunden is a member of the Pira International Board of Directors.

As part of the Government's commitment to driving forward the Foresight Programme the Steering Group is being strengthened. The re-constituted Group will play a leading part in the development of the next round of Foresight, due to begin in 1999, and will advise the Government on the future strategy. To reflect this wider role, seven new members have been appointed.

The new members are: Adair Turner, director general, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI); John Monks, general secretary, the Trades Union Council (TUC); Diana Warwick, chief executive, committee of vice chancellors and principals; Professor Sue Birley, Imperial College and National Westminster Bank; Roy McNulty, chairman, Short Brothers; David Normington, director general, Department for Education and Employment (DfEE); and Diane Coyle, Economics Editor, The Independent.
