Alesa twist cuts deep

Substantial savings are claimed for the Alesa "twist" tooling programme available from Advanced Carbide Tooling Ltd of Hinckley.

ACT reports that milling cut depths up to 17.5mm can be achieved in one pass with significantly less vibration resulting from the exceptionally low cutting forces required.

This can lead to increases in tool life of up to 50 per cent.

The Alesa "twist" cutters and PVD TiN coated inserts claimed to give up to 50 per cent extra tool life with improved performance

These results are achieved with twisted helical form inserts which are combined with a 90° tool approach angle to achieve a very positive high shear cutting action. The inserts are manufactured in PVD TiN coated high speed steel, ideal for face and shoulder milling a wide range of exotic material including acid resistant and aero engine steels.

Both chip breaker and non-chip breaker inserts can be supplied, which produce distinctive curled chips which are easily cleared from the workpiece while machining is in progress.

Milling bodies can be supplied for two arbor sizes of 22 and 27mm, and three cutting sizes of 50, 63 or 80mm diameter.
