Hammerite cuts the cost of street lighting maintenance

Lamp post paint finishes are constantly damaged by dogs, vehicles, prams and the environment in general. Dog urine contains acids which attack paint finishes, prams and vehicles inflict impact damage, causing chipping and fracturing, while finally the environment allows rust to form.

What is not commonly appreciated is the cost to local authorities of this problem. Gillingham Borough Council in Kent has minimised maintenance costs by treating all its street lighting columns with Hammerite Metal Finish. Hammerite Metal Finish's outstanding powers of protection are due to specially selected resins which shed water and resist dirt, together with head hardened glass flakes which leaf together as the paint dries to provide a highly impermeable barrier to moisture. Applicable by brush, aerosol, roller or spray, Hammerite Metal Finish paint has excellent wetting properties, and ensures long lasting metal protection.

The Council's street lighting technician, Ian Hardy, said “Hammerite's ease of application, unique durable finish and colour range all contribute to keeping our painting maintenance costs down by saving time and money”.
