Sandvik Steel extends stocks of instrumentation tubing

Sandvik Steel extends stocks of instrumentation tubingKeywords: Steel, Tubing, Corrosion resistance

Sandvik Steel has further extended its range of seamless, stainless steel tubes with the addition of new sizes and a new highly corrosion-resistant steel grade. Over 100 tube sizes and eight different steel grades can now be supplied (Plate 2).

In the standard ASTM TP 316/316L (Sandvik 3R60) stainless steel grades, the upper and lower size range has been extended to include six new outside diameters – 25.4mm (1in), 19.05mm (3/4in), 7.94mm (5/16in), 4.76mm (3/16in), 3.18mm (1/8in) and 1.59mm (1/16in) and a range of thicknesses.

Special attention to chemistry in this grade enables Sandvik's instrumentation tubes to display improved corrosion resistance to certain types of corrosion, particularly pitting and crevice corrosion. An increased molybdenum content of 2.6% means that the Sandvik grade has substantially higher resistance to attack than ASTM TP 304 steels and also better resistance than standard ASTM TP 316/316L steels.

In response to ever increasing market demands for improved corrosion resistance in harsh environments, particularly from the chemical and petrochemical process industries, Sandvik has added its multipurpose austenitic stainless alloy, Sandvik Sanicro 28 (UNS N08028) to its instrumentation tube stock range. There is now stock availability for sizes between 6.35mm (÷in) and 25.4mm (1in) outside diameters in a variety of thicknesses.

Designed for service in highly corrosive environments, Sandvik Sanicro 28 (UNS N08028) is characterised by very high corrosion resistance in strong acids, very good resistance to stress and intergranular corrosion, very high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion and good weldability.
