Clad molybdenum wire resists oxidation, corrosion at high temperatures
Clad molybdenum wire resists oxidation, corrosion at high temperaturesKeywords: Molybdenum, Wire, Corrosion resistance
A line of metallurgically bonded platinum- or nickel-clad molybdenum wire for use in semiconductor applications and other environments requiring wire that is highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion at elevated temperatures is reported to be available from Anomet Products, Inc. of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, USA.
Anomet platinum clad molybdenum wire is said to provide high oxidation and corrosion resistance and a low coefficient of thermal expansion at temperatures up to 1,200°C, depending on the application. Metallurgically bonded, this wire offers superior ductility, formability and weldability, versus wire that is plated or fabricated by deposition methods, claims the firm (Plate 1).
Featuring a smooth, consistent surface finish, Anomet platinum clad molybdenum wire is available from 0.25mm to 1.5mm OD with claddings ranging from 14 per cent to 38 per cent by weight, and from 4.5 to 55 microns, depending on diameter. For less corrosive environments, nickel-clad molybdenum wire is available. Spools, coils and straight lengths are offered.
