A portal site, coatingpowders.com, dedicated to coating powders for metal parts, initiated by ATOFINA, was launched recently. On logging on to the site we found one of its notable features to be its ability to offer to customers and prospective customers alike, for the first time, expert services on coating powders. Visitors logging onto the site have free access to a number of services whilst building up a directory of professionals.
This information, service and exchange site for the coating powders community at large (producers, prescribers and users) offers inter alia coating cost evaluation and advice (e.g. which product suits which application), a search facility using key words with the help of a virtual expert, and a diary of all relevant events (trade shows, new certifications, etc.).
Another useful feature of this customer service is a forum allowing visitors to submit questions, with answers provided on line by the entire community. If necessary, an expert can also establish a detailed diagnosis by return e-mail.
The platform features a comprehensive database of all existing powders (information on products, their applications, markets and technical performance). It includes links with a number of sites: ATOFINA's BtoB site (http:\\www.atofina.com) which features Rilsan fine powders, as well as certification bodies (AFNOR, ASTM, AWWA, BSI, DIN and ISO).
