Platinum- and palladium clad wire and ribbon composites that reportedly eliminate the need for 100 per cent precious metal in many applications and cost much less are being introduced by Anomet Products, Inc. of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, U.S.A.Anomet Platinum- and Palladium Clad Wire and Ribbon Products feature precious metal on the outside to provide characteristics such as weldability, conductivity, thermal stability, and bio-compatibility. Core materials can include titanium, tantalum, copper or silver, stainless steel, niobium, molybdenum, nickel, and iron-nickel, depending upon the properties desired.

Available in wire sizes from 0.05mm to 10mm O.D. and in ribbon widths up to 25mm with varying thicknesses, depending upon width, Anomet Platinumand Palladium Clad Wire and Ribbon Products are stated to be up to 90 per cent less expensive than comparable solid products, claims the firm. Applications include specially electronics, medical devices, and electro-chemical equipment.

Anomet Platinum- and Palladium Clad Wire and Ribbon Products are priced according to configuration and quantity. A 0.25mm dia. clad wire with 2.5 microns of platinum is stated to cost $2.00 USD/meter compared to solid platinum wire at $20.00 USD/meter.
