International Protective Coatings, manufacturer of anti-corrosion and fire protection coatings for steel, has launched a CD-ROM version of its comprehensive global product catalogue.

In addition to all the product details contained in the printed version, a new section enables International's customers to quickly and easily create their own global specifications to the new ISO 12944 standard, with full supporting documentation.

"No other coatings business is yet offering this service", said International's marketing manager, Jim Kavanagh. "It's the most significant development in our customer service since we launched our worldwide product manual two years ago."

Using what International claims is a first in the coatings industry, users simply key in a few variable details. The document produced will cover everything from surface preparation, application and health and safety factors, to details of the best coatings combinations for the project and information about how and where to purchase them.

Information available goes beyond what is normally seen by specifiers, says International. The program is also an interactive tool that allows an in-depth understanding of some of the logic behind the product document, such as an overview of the fabricator and their general requirements/criteria for the application of coatings at their facility.

Specifiers can view and then download a document which can either be edited and used as a stand-alone or included in their current project specification.

Multi-lingual capability datasheets in 18 languages make the information accessible to industries on every continent, and International has added a three-part Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) formatted coating specification for those in the North American market who insist on this format.

After loading the CD-ROM, users can select from several menus, including product data, technology, specifications, health/environmental and contacts. A new feature allows for automatic updating of key data direct to the users' computer from the International Web site.

Customers can use the estimating parts of the program to help in budgeting and the universal specifications they generate can be used to purchase International products anywhere in the world.

A radically revised International Protective Coatings Web site has also been unveiled.
