PIH automatic spray-coating machine

Keywords Pipeline Induction Heat, Spray coatings

In an effort to overcome many of the application problems of conventional field joint coating systems for tri-laminate factory coated pipelines, UK-based contractors Pipeline Induction Heat Limited "PIH" reports that it has developed a brand new state of the art automatic MCL coating machine.

The PIH "auto spray-coat" machine (patent applied for) is said to be capable of applying high-performance MCL solvent-free epoxy/polyurethane coatings, in a single high-build layer. PIH considers that the efficient and programmed application ensures quality standards are repeatable from joint-to-joint, while ensuring very fast application cycle-times with controlled coating thickness and bandwidth.

At a demonstration in Paris recently, PIH's managing director Phil Bond emphasised his company's approach:

PIH remains dedicated to the development of advanced application equipment for high-performance anti-corrosion coatings. This new PIH machine is the result of many months of intricate R&D. For the first time, PIH can now offer main contractors and pipeline operators a safe, cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of applying "solvent-free" liquid coatings to pipeline weld joints onsite. Average coating rates in excess of 300 field joints per day are achievable on a routine basis, using a single working unit!
