Concrete benefits: polyaspartic coating resin from Bayer offers advantages for construction projects, corrosion protection
Article Type: Industrial news From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 62, Issue 3
At construction sites, it is important to keep downtime and costs to a minimum. Bayer MaterialScience helps the industry save time and money by offering innovative polyaspartic coating resin raw materials to coatings manufacturers, empowering them to deliver cutting edge coatings products.
Bayer highlighted its Desmophen® NH 2850 XP polyaspartic binder and a number of other coatings technologies at World of Concrete 2015, taking place from February 3 to 6 in Las Vegas.
Desmophen® NH 2850 XP polyaspartic resin can be utilized in a number of markets, including:
construction projects, including topcoats for flooring and stamped or stained concrete, stone carpets and membranes; and
corrosion protection, including topcoats and direct-to-metal (DTM) applications.
This raw material is characterized by its very low viscosity, which simplifies the formulation of nonsolvent topcoats for decorative floor coatings. In addition, the binder can be used as a reactive thinner to achieve 100 per cent solids systems for corrosion protection.
Nonsolvent, two-component (2K) floor coatings based on a combination of Desmophen NH 2850 XP and established Desmophen® NH binders and Desmodur® N curing agents can be applied very easily by roller or brush. They cure rapidly, even at temperatures below 10°C. Several layers of such polyaspartic systems can be applied over the course of a day, and the floor can be walked on the following day. Even better, a single layer is often sufficient to give the substrate long-term protection against the destructive force of moisture or salt water. The fast-curing properties of these raw materials help to keep downtimes on the construction site to a minimum and reduce costs. Over the long term, they are resistant to abrasion and chemicals, and feature high lightfastness.
In addition to Desmophen NH 2850 XP resin, visitors to Bayer’s booth at World of Concrete (O40335, Outdoor Silver Lot) can also see firsthand Bayer raw materials for waterborne coatings, UV-cure coatings and graffiti-resistant coatings.
