Permasense launches new software for advanced online decision-making
Article Type: New materials and equipment From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 62, Issue 3
Permasense, the global leader in remote monitoring solutions to the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry, announced a major upgrade to its data visualization and analysis software. Known as Data Manager 5 and powered by the breakthrough Adaptive Cross Correlation (AXC) processing technique, the new software makes it significantly quicker and easier for users to analyze the data gathered by Permasense’s corrosion- and erosion-monitoring sensors. The software helps improve on-stream decision-making around asset integrity and production rates. It is designed to be retrofitted to all installed Permasense systems and will be the standard for all new installations.
Permasense’s non-intrusive corrosion- and erosion-monitoring system uses permanently installed, wireless sensors that continually measure the wall thickness of fixed equipment and quickly detect metal loss caused by internal corrosion or erosion. Combining established ultrasonic sensor technology with wireless communication, it sends real-time data automatically to the user’s desk, enabling them to view equipment wall thicknesses and wall loss rates at critical or high risk locations. Users can monitor and analyze how the metalwork is coping with the demands placed upon it due to changes in process conditions, and affords online optimization and validation of corrosion or erosion mitigation strategies in even the most inhospitable and inaccessible environments.
The launch of Data Manager 5, powered by AXC, will give Permasense’s clients an even clearer picture of asset integrity than was previously possible. Presenting the data in easy-to-use graphical formats, it will enable a wider range of users to make evidence-based decisions in a shorter time-frame, helping them to maintain optimum production output, introduce cost-efficiencies to their maintenance schedules and enhance reliability, availability and safety. The software also presents PSI, a new analysis to detect the onset of pitting type corrosion activity.
Jon Allin, CTO at Permasense says:
AXC and PSI are the results of several years of development effort in partnership with Imperial College London and some of our key clients. We have overcome a fundamental limitation of ultrasonic wall thickness measurement, separating the physical effect of wall thinning and internal roughness into two measurements. Our goal is always to deliver data that transforms our customers’ operations and profitability, enabling them to address the complex interplay of political pressures, societal demands and a continually changing economic climate.
Peter Collins, CEO at Permasense adds:
The launch of Data Manager 5 powered by AXC is the latest advance from Permasense following a highly successful 12 months. More than 6,500 Permasense sensors have now been installed at 64 facilities in 23 countries across five continents, an increase of 30 per cent over the previous year. Those sensors have now delivered a total of over 10 million measurements to the desks of clients. With the launch of Data Manager 5, clients will have access to data that is even easier and quicker to understand, enabling them to make better informed decisions and ultimately enhance the operational performance of their facilities.
