ENCOURAGING EXCELLENCE IN MANAGEMENT RESEARCH WORLD-WIDE

Emerald Group Publishing Limited, publisher of the largest collection of international business and management journals, and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a global membership organization with more than 500 institutional members from academia, business and public services, seek to celebrate excellence in research by sponsoring the Annual Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards.

Award-winning entries will receive a cash prize of 1,500 (or other currency equivalent), a certificate and the prospect of an offer of publication in the sponsoring journal, as a full paper, or as an executive summary/research note, at the discretion of the Editor. Twelve prizes will be awarded to the winners of the following categories:

EligibilityTo be eligible for the award, the research must address an issue that is of importance to the various subject areas listed above. The awards are open to those who have completed and satisfied examination requirements for a Doctoral award, or will do so, between 1 June 2004 and 1 June 2006 (the closing date for applications for the 2006 Awards).

Entry criteriaAwards will be granted for research which:1. Demonstrates originality and innovation.2. Makes an outstanding contribution to theory and its application.

Submission requirements1. Researchers should apply online using the application form at www.emeraldinsight.co.uk/awards/awards.php

2. The following documents will be required electronically:a) Covering letter.b) Executive Summary – paper that summarises his/her Doctoral research. The Executive Summary should not exceed 1,000 words.c) Letter of recommendation/reference from a supervisor/senior faculty member. For short-listed applicants, further contact may be made with the referee.d) Contact details of external examiner(s).

3. The closing date for receipt of online applications is 1 June 2006.

Essential requirementsThe entries will be judged by the Editor and at least one Editorial Advisory Board member of the sponsoring journals. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:a) Significance.b) Quality of the literature review.c) Appropriateness and application of the methodology.d) Analysis and presentation of the data.e) Implications for theory and practice.

Short-listed applicants may be required to answer further questions as appropriate from the judging panel (including members of the sponsoring journal’s editorial team). Winners will be required to submit an unpublished paper or papers, sole or joint, authored or derived from the research, within six months of winning the award.The Editors reserve the right not to select a winning paper, if, in their judgement, none of the entries is considered satisfactory.
