Eeyore is presenting. The soft voiceLulling one into soporific contemplationOf navels long atrophied,Brainwaves subduedAnd opportunities lost. The tail droops. The voice lowersIn ever slowing but persistentBeat:Rhythmic,Seductive,But unengaging.Transfixed by visual spectacle,We gaze in vague abstractionAt passing colours,Endless transitions,And all that web architectureCan offer,In flooding sameness.“Soft launch” he quietly announces. It fits the mode:Softening upWe who slump on the verge ofDeep sleep.Eeyore is presenting.(With apologies to Winnie the Pooh)

[This poem was inspired by exposure to one too many boardroom web site-based powerpoint presentations, and by a report by the Australian Institute of Management. The latter pointed to the addictive and excessive use of computer generated visuals and slide shows in presentations made by Australian business leaders, with a consequent loss of audience connection and persuasiveness.]
