At the heart of the system is a CO2 laser labelling unit that offers fiducial verification on an x-y axis. Repeatable precision of the axis system is to within ±0.05 mm, and, if required, the system can be fitted with a camera for local fiducial recognition, so ensuring absolute marking precision.

Offering speeds of 0.2 s for a typical 3 mm × 3 mm data matrix code, the WL 2010 LC offers fast and flexible marking. It can cater for all common barcodes, data matrix codes and plain text with a marking area of up to 460 mm × 460 mm.

The system offers a number of features to improve product quality. These include the indicated input position of board stacks, a test mark for automatically selecting the most suitable performance parameters and the position detection of bad boards. The WL 2010 LC is also able to store numerous marking positions and layouts for ease of setup.

Further options include: reading of good/bad marks and test marks with automatic parameter selection; even powder coating in special colours according to the RAL colour table.

The unit is a fully enclosed steel sheet construction measuring 1,000 mm long × 1,680 mm wide and 1,800 mm high, with integrated PCB handling. It offers a number of options for connectivity to the host system including via ODBC interface, file interface or TCP/IP. Alternatively host connection to a higher database can be arranged. For support, the machine offers tele-diagnosis using a modem.
