Contax Launches New Essemtec FLX2010-LCV

Production automation system specialist, Contax Ltd, has launched the Essemtec FLX2010-LCV pick and place machine. The latest offering in the highly acclaimed FLX series of placement systems, the FLX2010-LCV is a highly flexible SMD machine which can incorporate automatic dispensing along with the placement of more irregular devces such as LEDs and metal domes.

Ideally suited to the production of PCB assemblies along with membrane keyboards and other flexible circuits, the FLX2010-LCV (Figure 3) enables all placement and dispensing tasks to be programmed in the optimal sequence. The system is extremely precise, and can place all SMT components from 0201 to 50 x 50mm QFPs.

Two versions of the model are available, with a placement area of 500×300mm or 800×600mm.

Both models offer the following features:

  1. 1.

Optical non-touch laser alignment system. Components down to a size of 1.0×0.5mm (0402) and up to 33×33mm can be centred without the risk of having them damaged by mechanical jaws.

  2. 2.

Wide range of feeders (up to 310) cater for all applications. Radial LEDs can be directly placed from bandilier reels. Nicomatic metal domes can be picked from the standard Nicomatic sticks, non- standard components can be assembled from pre-loaded trays or directly from standard SMD tapes. Other SMD components can be taken from standard feeders such as tape, stick or tray feeders.

Options include:

  • Cognex vision for devices ranging from 0201 to 50 x 50mm in size.

  • Two dispensing heads that allow the application of glue, conductive glue or solder paste.

  • Integrated-vacuum table that offers a generous working area and easy handling of flexible circuits.

“The new FLX2010-LCV builds on the success of Essemtec's existing FLX range,” explained Mike Rapson, Managing Director at Contax Ltd “It is based on well proven technology, yet provides the most flexible placement system that we have seen to date,” he continued.

“The modular design enables the machine to be configured according the user's needs, and Essemtec's Easyplacer software ensures the most efficient use of the system.

“Essemtec has long enjoyed a reputation for the quality and accuracy of its systems and we believe that the new FLX2010-LCV series will be very well received both in the UK and worldwide,” he concluded.
