www.smartgroup.org/

The SMART (Surface Mount and Related Technologies) Group is the leading European technical trade association representing the electronics manufacturing industry. This is their web site which contains all the usual things you could expect from a society or trade association web site, diary of events, press releases, links to other websites, book reviews etc... It has plenty of information to digest about the electronics manufacturing industry and it should be worth visiting for Assembly Automation readers.

In 1999, IPC changed its name from Institute of Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuits to IPC, including their identity statement, Association Connecting Electronics Industries.

IPC is the only electronic interconnect organization that brings together all industry players, including designers, board manufacturers, assembly companies, suppliers, and original equipment manufacturers. There is lots of information available to download. The “knowledge” section should be useful to visit as it contains standards, email forums and tools calculators and databases. This site should be a “must visit” for Assembly Automation readers involved in the electronics industry.

The mission of the SMTA (Surface Mount Technology Association) is “Over 20 Years Developing Solutions in Electronics Assembly”. This American site is very professional and very busy, adverts for conferences, exhibitions and other services from companies detract a little from the huge amount of information within this site. However, overall it is easy to navigate and find articles, news stories and plenty of information packed into this web site.
