High performance 1/4 turn fasteners

High performance 1/4 turn fasteners

With approval for aircraft use, US-designed Skybolt fasteners offer extreme strength and vibration resistance, combined with low weight – making them the ideal choice for racecar applications.

New products available from Protex include the comprehensive range of Skybolt C-Loc, Z-Loc and A-Loc 1/4 turn studs and receptacles. These designs are equivalent to – and are interchangeable with – existing industry standard fasteners, yet incorporate numerous design features to ensure improved, dependable operation under the most demanding conditions (Plate 5).

Plate 5 New Skybolt 1/4 turn fasteners from Protex are manufactured from solid CNC machined stock, rather than low strength die cast zinc or light alloy

Skybolt Fasteners are manufactured from solid CNC machined stock, rather than low strength die cast zinc or light alloy. Standard range products can be supplied in zinc-plated mild steel, or in stainless steel for marine applications or use in corrosive environments. The new fasteners are also available in patented “Skytanium” high performance alloy, which offers up to 600 lbf ultimate tensile and shear strength at half the weight of equivalent steel designs.

Assembly studs are produced in a variety of standard lengths – in 0.030 inch (0.076 mm) increments – with slotted or Phillips screw heads, or a wing nut profile for hand operation.

The complementary range of Skybolt panel grommets accommodates a broad spread of material thicknesses and includes the “PlusFlush” design, which provides an extremely neat, high quality finished appearance.
