JoinIT^®, TWI's web-based knowledge platform is set to be a test bed for the next generation of knowledge-based internet sites within the business to business community.

Part-funded by the European Commission, the INtelligent Knowledge ASset Sharing and trading INKASS project will address the operation of a marketplace for trading tacit and explicit knowledge between organisations.

The project is managed by Greece-based business consultancy Planet Ernst and Young SA, which is leading a multinational consortium of European partners. These include DFKI, the German Research Center for artificial intelligence, the Swiss University of St Gallen, the National Technical University of Athens, the Empolis arm of the Bertelsmann Mohn Media Group and Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as TWI.

INKASS will use the JoinIT platform and its comprehensive content covering welding and joining technologies as a framework for understanding and developing a knowledge marketplace.

"This recognition is a great commendation for JoinIT," says Richard Smith, TWI's Manager of Technology Transfer Services. "As a key project participant TWI will gain a better understanding of how to exploit its knowledge assets and knowledge trading and continue to improve user features within the Web site. User profiling and powerful ontology-based searching will be key aspects of this development."
