AC Tech launches the lowest cost Devicenet™ compatible motor drive on the market
AC Tech has introduced the SCD range of variable speed drives, the lowest cost DeviceNet compatible drive on the market. Specially designed for OEM manufacturers, the new SCD drive provides exceptional functionality through DeviceNet™ compatibility and super fast production line set-up offered by the revolutionary new EPM programming chip. Other features include pre-set speeds and easy to use LED display and keypad (see Plate 7).
AC Tech’s new SCD drives provide designers with an efficient way to improve the performance of equipment such as packaging machinery, mixers, conveyors, pumps and fans. The SCD’s compact size and DeviceNet™ compatibility enables OEM’s to easily incorporate the drives on panel boards to create more intelligent machines at lower costs.

The drive also features a unique EPM chip that can save OEMs time and money by allowing their technicians to program and install the chip without having to connect power to the drive. Using AC Tech’s desktop EPM programming module, the user can duplicate a drive program in seconds and plug the programmed chip directly into the drive facia, offering extremely fast mass programming. Another major benefit of EPM programming is that it maintains a non- volatile copy of the drive program in a second memory location to permit resetting of the drive to the OEMs pre-set factory defaults. Programming using AC Technology’s TechLink software is extremely easy, either to the EPM programming module or direct to the drive.
Other programming options include using the push buttons and high visibility LED screen on the front of the drive, which are not always available on other competitors drives when using their DeviceNet connection.
The SCD range has single and three phase input. Voltage ranges from 208 to 590 VAC, power outputs from 0.18 to 18.5 kW and offers a frequency fold back feature, preventing tripping and tolerating current spikes of up to 180 per cent. An internal memory function also allows for storage of the last eight faults, providing simple service diagnostics.
AC Tech provides a variety of optional extras such as easily mounted resistor braking kits and EMC compliant filters. The SCD drive is available with DIN rail mounting options and through hole mounting for attaching the heat sink external to the enclosure keeping the cubical size to a minimum.
