Keyword Optics
This Web page contains information about the Photonics East, a conference on Network Intelligence and Internet-based manufacturing presented by SPIE. The conference aims to provide a forum for software engineers and manufacturing engineers to discuss the different aspects of systems integration and process control. It has specific emphasis on the use of technologies for achieving open system models across networks. Papers are invited on topics including integrating process control with business systems using the Internet as a virtual enterprise infrastructure, tools and methodologies for achieving agent-based manufacturing over the Internet, and authentication and access control for Internet computing.
This is one of those Internet sites where it is initially very easy to find something of interest but contains so many links that it is easy to get totally distracted or lost.

Keyword Automation
The Industrial Automation Open Networking Alliance (IAONA) is a new trade group that intends to encourage the growth of open networking in industrial automation from sensing devices to the boardroom via Internet and Ethernet-based networks. The initial focus of the group will be on industrial Ethernet with an emphasis on real-time operation, determinism, behaviour in rugged environments, connections to existing field buses, and software support. IAONA also plans to establish working committees to study extensions and specifications required to make open networking standards and related software and hardware suitable for industrial applications and to allow interfaces between those standards and current industrial buses.
This site is very informative and easy to navigate. It contains numerous resources, links to other Web sites, articles, magazines and vendors.
