Linear Drives Ltd (LDL) has extended its range of ThrustTube® linear motion solutions with the addition of a high-precision module. The new ThrustTube configuration uses a tool plate base to provide improved flatness (see Plate 9).

In all linear drives, the straightness of the motion is determined by the bearing surface. Conventional ThrustTube motors with their extruded base plates offer trueness properties of around 50 microns per metre, but exhibit very high repeatability. The new variant typically adds three times the positional accuracy and trueness due to the high-accuracy tool-plate surface, with the specification guaranteed by laser interferometer measurements of straightness (X deviation) and flatness (Y deviation).

The new precision ThrustTube module is targeted at special applications that demand absolute trueness, including the semiconductor and metrology industries.
