A totally new mechanical design of hollow shaft rotary encoder is to be announced by Heidenhain, with compact outside dimensions of just 87mm and overall length of 50mm (see Plate 7). The ExN 100 encoder has a large hollow shaft with an inside diameter of up to 50mm which is large enough to carry electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic connections.
Plate 7Heidenhain's ExN 100 large hollow shaft rotary encoder has new mechanical design
The ExN 100 incremental rotary encoder has a stator coupling and is protected to IP 64 standards when exposure to dust or splashing water cannot be avoided. The encoder is usable across a wide range of applications from machinery, plant and drive systems, and has common interfaces to accommodate simple connection to existing higher level electronics.
The ExN 100 extends the existing Heidenhain ERN 100 series and is available with sinusoidal or squarewave output signals.
Meanwhile, for "absolute" position applications, the ECN 113 single turn encoder provides 8,192 absolute position values per revolution.
Heidenhain hollow shaft rotary encoders are now available with housing diameters of 36.5mm, 58mm and 87mm and with hollow shaft internal bore sizes from 6mm to 50mm.
