Title: Resonant tag labels and method of making the same

The invention relates to resonant tag labels, which are used in electronic article surveillance and identification systems. It is an object of the present invention to provide a resonant tag label, which is constructed with thin coatings, so that it may be disguised, for example, underlying a conventional printed label. A further object is that it should use a minimum of components and be separable from an initial film, used primarily during configuration. Yet another object is to provide a label responsive to a plurality of frequencies, and regardless of orientation. The frangible label also requires a substrate film or object to which it is applied in order to remain a viable construction. The frangible label includes a plurality of integrally joined layers deposited successively on a removable carrier film. One or more of the layers are electrically conductive and configured to define an electrical circuit. The label is transferable from the carrier film on to a receiving surface and is otherwise inseparable from the carrier film without disruption of the circuit. In an alternative embodiment the label includes an adhesive layer for applying it to a substrate, such that the plurality of integrally joined layers including the electrical circuit are transferable to the receiving surface and are otherwise inseparable from the carrier film without destruction of the circuit.
