ABB announces new company name

Keywords: ABB, Automation, Technology

ABB has announced that ABB Automation Ltd is the new company name for the former ABB Industrial Systems Ltd.

The new name reflects the changes made recently within the ABB organisation worldwide, when the automation business segment was created to provide a much more targeted approach to customers in these markets.

The automation segment is now one of ABB's core businesses and the largest grouping of automation companies in the world.

In the UK, the name ABB Automation Ltd also more accurately expresses the core capabilities of the company. Over the past 18 months, ABB has made some strategically important acquisitions such as the automation businesses of Alfa Laval and Elsag Bailey. The activities of ABB Flexible automation have also moved into the company's portfolios.

"These moves take us closer to our goal of being a customer-focused innovative, knowledge- and service-based supplier of industrial IT", says David Denton, managing director, ABB Automation Ltd.

"The change of name to ABB Automation Ltd is also indicative of the incredible pace at which our technology and business are changing today.

"The technology base is shifting within the automation industry. Software products, information systems and process optimisation are becoming increasingly important. These technologies are developing rapidly and all companies within the automation business must develop their skills in new areas."
