Weidmuller upgrades fieldbus diagnostic tool to include CANopen and DeviceNet

Keywords Fieldbus, CAN

Weidmuller has upgraded its unique Windows-based diagnostic tool that enables users to examine the status and change node parameters in fieldbus systems. Ideal for testing during installation and commissioning, and for observing network traffic, CAN or DeviceNet bus systems can now also be interrogated and modified from a PC or laptop computer.

The Weidmuller DIAmon software package was originally developed for Profibus DP networks. As with Profibus systems, any PC under Windows 95 or NT can be connected to the CANbus or DeviceNet network using a simple adaptor cable connected to the serial port, though for these two systems a fieldbus network card is required in the PC. The system recognises nodes conforming to the fieldbus standards and displays listings of stations in Windows standard format, together with graphical information about the connected modules.

With DIAmon, users can monitor the status of modules on the network and review and change various parameters, station addresses can be changed (if this is supported by the module), inputs can be read on screen, or the data stream can be logged and displayed with time stamping. Individual outputs can be set simply by a mouse click on the appropriate graphic.

DIAmon is a powerful tool for diagnostics and configuration, and is unique to Weidmuller. Diagnostic and error messages are displayed in simple English phrases, speeding the process of correct configuration during commissioning as well as in identifying problems on a network in use.
